"Capturing the essence of a place is at the heart of my work. Before the first brushstroke meets the canvas, I pause, I breathe deeply and I feel. The natural contours of a place I see in shapes and lines, building from broad, large shapes moving to intricate layers.
 Then, the colour play begins. Mixing pigments is a grounding ritual for me. Colour is what gives the work its emotional resonance. As each piece is deeply considered, my process is unhurried. It is this intentional pace that imbues the artwork with its reflective quality, inviting you to step into the landscape and truly feel its presence. I finish with the smallest details. In Graceful Strength each leaf is painted singularly and each outline hand-drawn—to complete the connection to place."

Josephine Hill is a contemporary Australian artist whose practice is grounded in a deep study of colour and its emotional resonance. Her carefully considered works explore subtle shifts in tone and forms, creating paintings that gently uplift and invite quiet reflection.
