Make a treasure box from clay

Slow down and Join Lea from Mud Dept. for two hours of creative fun where you will learn how to make your own beautiful small lidded treasure box from clay. We all need a place to keep our precious things.  Imagine having one you have made yourself, just yours and beautiful. Come and make a small lidded box in this hand building class.

Lea will teach you the clay handbuilding techniques of slab and pinching to make your piece. You will have a choice of two clays to work with.

The wonderful thing about handbuilding is that all that is needed to make beautiful objects are clay, your hands, and perhaps a few simple tools. Although even these are not essential. In this workshop you will learn these ancient techniques, still relevant today, and come away with skills you can use to make just about any ceramic piece.

You will learn how to make your box using carving, coil and pinching techniques and make your box with the one you like best. Lea will also teach you how to make a knob or button opening and how to make a lid that fits and stays on. You will also be shown how to decorate your box with stamps, carving and colour, using a few different techniques.

Your box will be glazed, in the glaze of your choice, fired and returned to you, ready for your treasures

The class is suitable for beginners and those with some more experience.

Lea will take your boxes back to her studio to fire and glaze. They will be ready for collection from MGC four weeks after your workshop.

All materials will be included.

Morning tea will be provided. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know so we can try and accommodate you.

This class requires a minimum of 5 attendees to go ahead.

No refunds will be given as per our conditions.
