Basket Weaving with Natural Fibres

Take a break from modern life and learn how to weave a basket using natural fibres in an inspiring, relaxing and creative workshop with Emma Anderson.

Basket weaving is one of those skills where the 'how to start' skills make more sense once you've got the basic technique down. With this in mind, Emma will provide each participant with the beginnings of the basket made from natural raffia so you can get straight into learning the basics.

Once everyone has a handle on basic weaving techniques, Emma will demonstrate how to begin a basket. At the class you'll make a small basket (about the size of a cake of soap) but will leave with materials and skills to make a second basket at home.

You are more than welcome to bring additional materials such as freshly cut (and clean) grasses, lavender, wool, ribbon or plastic bags.

This class is suitable to people 12 years and over.

Basket making requires hand strength so might not be enjoyable for people with conditions such as arthritis.

About Emma Anderson

After years of researching family history, Emma is beginning to piece together
where she fits and where her ancestors came from. This journey led her to
learning basket weaving from a local Wiradjuri artist. Emma has since learnt
nearly every people group throughout history has used weaving of some form
to create both art and functional pieces.

Emma has incorporated these skills with her passion for upcycling, combining
the traditional with contemporary.

Morning tea will be provided. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know so we can try and accommodate you.

This class requires a minimum of 5 attendees to go ahead.

No refunds will be given as per our conditions.
